Jakarta: Indonesia’s World No. 4 men’s doubles pair Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan have set a target of at least reaching the semi-final of the 2019 Indonesia Open.
Setiawan/Ahsan are set to face England’s Marcus Ellis/Chris Langridge in their opener. The Indonesian pair was wary about their British opponents because Ellis/Langridge have just won gold medal at the 2019 Europe Games.
“They are good players and we don’t want to underestimate them. Moreover, they just claimed the Europe Games gold medal and they are certainly more confident,” said Ahsan.
“As for our target, we are aiming for the semi-final. Actually, we would like to just play one game at a time, we don’t want to start thinking too far ahead,” added Ahsan.
“If this was three or four years ago, our target would be to win the title. But now, our opponents are really good and younger, therefore, we are going to just focus and enjoy the game while giving our best inside the court,” said Setiawan.
Ahsan/Setiawan who won the 2013 and 2015 World Championships, will participate in three consecutive tournaments from mid-July until early August. After the Indonesia Open, they will immediately fly to Tokyo for the Japan Open and then to Bangkok for the Thailand Open.
“These tournaments are really tough, therefore, we must maintain our physically fitness. I am hoping for maximum results in these tournaments,” explained Ahsan.
