Thomas Cup: Malaysia takes 4-1 win over Germany

New Delhi: Malaysia sailed through its second Thomas Cup match by defeating Germany 4-1. That win also exposed Malaysia's deficiencies on its roster besides World No. one Lee Chong Wei. They'll have to step up efforts at resolving the inconsistencies ahead of the Korea game on Wednesday.

In the Germany game, Lee Chong Wei had a hot start to overcome Marc Zwiebler 21-14, 21-8 in 37 minutes to pocket the first point. Malaysia played the first men’s doubles with scratch pair Tan Boon Heong/Tan Wee Kiong against Johannes Schoettler/Michael Fuchs. The Malaysian duo were stretched to three sets before notching the second point for Malaysia team with 13-21 21-17 21-18 victory. Good job girls! Daren Liew should learn from you guys running end to end and fighting for every shotsChong Wei Feng was the better in second singles by winning a breathtaking game of 19-21 22-20 23-21 against Dieter Domke. Goh V Shem/Lim Khim Wah took care of Peter Kaesbauer/Josche Zurwonne 21-12 21-18 in 30 minutes for the fourth point; but, Daren Liew was once again the Achilles' heel for Malaysia when he lost to Lukas Schmidt 20-22 10-21 in 35 minutes.

New Delhi: By giving away only one point, Malaysia successfully defeated India in the opening game.

Malaysia's first singles, world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei faced some challenges from K. Srikanth in the first set before he took the game with 21-19; He finished off Srikanth 21-12 quickly in the second set to win the first point for Malaysia in just 35 minutes. Hello, wake up captain!Then, it was a surprise to see Malaysia played Hoon Thien How and Tan Boon Heong as the first doubles, they were the world junior champion in 2004, but their partnership was ended after Tan partnered with Koo Kien Keat. Tan Boon Heong-Hoon Thien How was able to score the second point for Malaysia with 21-14, 21-11 win over Sumeeth Reddy-Manu Attri.
