Taufik Hidayat didn’t have a good feeling about his group-stage draw.

His instincts were proven right on Wednesday, after the former world champion crumbled in the clutch and lost in two sets to Bao Chunlai of China in their opening match at the season-ending Super Series Masters Finals in Johor Baru, Malaysia.

Down one set and just a point shy of extending the match to a deciding third set, Taufik instead saw Bao string together four consecutive points en route to a 21-18, 26-24 victory at Bandaraya Indoor Stadium.

Indonesia went 0-2 on the day after Alvent Yulianto Chandra and Hendra Aprida Gunawan dropped a 21-16, 21-18 decision to Carsten Mogensen and Mathias Boe of Denmark in men’s doubles action.

Badminton's governing body has opposed staging London 2012 badminton at Wembley Arena, saying it is too far from the east London Olympic site.

Last week the International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved a plan to hold badminton events at the arena.

But the Badminton World Federation said it did not want the sport to be in a "stand alone" west London venue.

It said: "We are of the opinion that this will affect the Olympic experience for players and spectators."

Sporting 'pinnacle'

Last week the IOC approved holding badminton and rhythmic gymnastics events at Wembley Arena instead of a £40m temporary venue that had been planned for Greenwich.

Wembley Arena was supported by London Mayor Boris Johnson and the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (Locog).

Locog chairman Sebastian Coe said: "It's a combination of cost - everyone recognises the world has changed dramatically since when we bid - but it's also about legacy and athlete experience."

A London 2012 spokeswoman has since added Locog is considering the concerns and will respond to them

But Badminton World Federation (BWF) President Dr Kang Young Joong said: "The Olympic Games is the pinnacle of sporting achievement and the BWF owes our athletes and its members the responsibility to showcase badminton to the media and the world in the best possible way."

The BWF said it would "vigorously engage" in venue negotiations with the IOC and hoped to find a solution at its next board meeting in March.

Indian ace Saina Nehwal is concentrating on giving her best at the World Super Series Masters Finals tournament, which gets underway in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, from December 2.

Saina feels the tourney is one of the most prestigious events on the world circuit, where a spate of pullouts have resulted in her being seeded second.

Only France's Pi Hongyan is seeded higher than her.

"I am happy that only Pi is ranked higher than me in this tournament. It gives me the confidence that I can give a good account of myself," the Hyderabadi said.

Even then, Saina is not ready to pronounce herself the favourite.

"In badminton, there is not much that separates the top players in the world. On a given day, anyone can beat anyone. There is so much competition that one cannot take anyone lightly anymore." It must be mentioned that Saina has previously beaten Hongyan a couple of times. But she says that her previous track record against Hongyan will count for nothing.

SHANGHAI, China, Nov. 22  -- China's world No. 2 Lin Dan scored an easy win over Jan Jorgensen of Denmark to claim the men's singles title at the ongoing China Open badminton here on Sunday.

The finals of the China Open attracted the biggest number of spectators of these days.

Jorgensen stunned the Chinese audience by edging out Chen Jin of China, while Lin eased out all his opponents in the previous rounds.

Lin ended the first set at ease, as usual, delivering a masterful performance to lead from the very beginning. Jorgensen seemed to be in trouble in finding his own rhythm. Lin claimed the first set 21-12.

Jorgensen tried to recover in the second set, only to find himself 1-7 behind Lin after several long rallies. He then made use of Lin's two errors to pull back to 3-7 before Lin speeded up to establish a 12-5 lead. Jorgensen seemed to have used up his energy after that, and Lin sealed his victory with another 21-12.

Lin seemed excited after the final.

"I feel happy to win China Open. I was troubled by injury all through these days, and I also feel tired because of the tight schedule. Anyway, winning a champion at home is exciting."

Jorgensen seemed satisfied with his performance in this season. "It was a tough game and I hadn't expected to reach the final in this tournament, starting with beating Lee Chong Wei. Beating ChenJin yesterday was a big achievement and I am just happy to reach the final. I got the chance to play him (Lin Dan) and it was amazing."
