Chong Wei, the joint third seed, secured a 21-12, 21-4 win in his first round match against Chetan Anand of India which lasted just 18 minutes.

Chong Wei, seeking his first All England final appearance after reaching the semi-finals in 2005 and 2006, will meet Denmarks Kasper Oedum today.

Chun Seang defeated Rajiv Ouseph of England 21-18, 17-21, 21-18 in his final qualifying match to make the cut. He will play Thailands Boonsak Ponsana in the first round of the main draw today.

Choong Hann defeated Thailands Poompat Sapkulchananart 14-21, 21-16, 21-14 in the second round of the qualifiers and played Indonesias Simon Santoso for a place in the main draw late last night.

 

China should help other countries, says Li

Li, who won more than 50 grand prix and international titles including two world singles crowns in the 1980s, thinks her country needs to help out.
"As China is one of the strongest teams in the world, I think we have the responsibility to help the other less-developed countries to promote this sport," Li told Reuters on the sidelines of this week's session of the CPPCC, an advisory body to China's parliament.
One way that China could help is by letting leading players go abroad to play and coach at the end of their careers. Some hoping to do this, however, have been accused of "treachery".
Li thinks this unfair and once the national team has dispensed with a players' services, they should be free to go.

"I don't think it's very bad for China," said Li.
