Officials of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) must redeem themselves after the country’s embarrassing loss at this year’s world badminton group championship in Wuhan, China, former badminton champions say.
Former men’s doubles hero, Sigit Budiarto, said Thursday that while the failure of the Indonesian Thomas Cup team was the worst defeat in Indonesia’s badminton history, the PBSI must help the country regain the days of glory by preparing a better training ground for players.
“We don’t need to play the blame game. The most essential aspect to think about now is how to improve ourselves in the next competition,” he said as quoted by kompas.com.
Sigit was a member of the winning Thomas Cup team in 1998, 2000 and 2002. With Candra Wijaya, he won the World Championship in 1997 as well as captured the prestigious All-England championship title in 2003.
