KUALA LUMPUR: Chief coach Yap Kim Hock (pic) will make a decision on whether to allow Lee Chong Wei to skip local tournaments this year after having a discussion with the national number one.

Let me talk to him first ... then I will make a decision on the matter, said Kim Hock, who had earlier made it compulsory for all national shuttlers to compete in local tournaments.

BEIJING (Reuters) - China's badminton players get rattled by rowdy crowds in Malaysia and Indonesia and prefer playing in front of the more respectful European audiences, according to national team coach Li Yongbo.

The rivalry between world No.1 Lin Dan and Indonesia's Olympic champion Taufik Hidayat, as well as the resentment felt by Asia's traditional badminton powerhouses at China's growing dominance, has made for some hostile receptions for Li's players.

Jung Jae-sung and Lee Yong-dae brought South Korea a lone gold medal in the men's double of the Yonex Korea Badminton Open, where China dominated the competition.

Facing unexpected finalists Hwang Ji-man and Lee Jae-jin of South Korea, who ranked 30th in the world, in the final, the world's No. 5 South Korean duo out-dueled their compatriots with Jung's power smashing and Lee's smart net play, closing the game 21-16, 21-15 in 30 minutes to capture the trophy.

Junior players from around the world gathered in Sydney, at the sports halls at Olympic Park, from 17-21 January, to compete for medals in the teams and individual championships at the Youth Olympic Festival. Badminton was one of 16 sports to be contested at this years event.
