Misbun Ramdan made to sweat before retaining title (pic)

IT was an unusual struggle for Misbun Ramdan Misbun (pic) who nonetheless retained his Under-18 singles title, while Zulfadli Zulkifli secured an effortless double in the Under-16 category of the Zone A first leg of the 100PLUS National Junior Circuit in Ipoh yesterday.

Ramdan, the son of national coach Misbun Sidek, was expected to have it easy but wa s taken the distance by fellow Selangor player S.

Krishna Kumar before winning 21-16, 20-22, 21-16 in 48 minutes.

Zulfadli, also from Selangor, thrashed Ooi Yee Keat of Penang 21-6, 21-3 in just 17 minutes to secure the Under-16 singles crown. He then teamed up with younger brother Zulfaiz to beat Pe r a k ’s Chan Ren Chong-Jason Loo 21- 6, 21-19 to win the doubles title.

Kuala Lumpur’s Lee Jian Jee made a swe e p of the boys’ Under-18 in the first leg of the Zone B in Malacca. Jian Jee beat Aiman Hussin of Johor 21-10, 21-17 in 29 minutes to win the singles title, then secured the doubles crown with Mohamed Nurhelmi beating another KL pair Loke Kok Pong-Saw Weng Jian 20-22, 21-12, 21-15.
