Kuala Lumpur: The reining Hong Kong Open champion, Lee Chong Wei who had previously decided to skip the Badminton World Federation’s (BWF) World Super Series Finals in Dubai next month, has announced that he will play in the BWF’s year-end championships.
Winning his fifth Hong Kong Open title last Sunday was definitely a powerful way to boost Lee’s confidence.
“After an eight month title draught, claiming the Hong Kong Open title really gave me a timely confidence boost,” said Lee.
“It’s not going to be easy to play in the World Super Series Finals in Dubai because only the top eight players in the world are eligible to compete in the season-ending tournament,” added Lee.
“I am going to take some time off to spend time with my family after the Dubai finals and before the All England next March,” said Lee when met at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Monday.
Lee also mentioned that his both of his coaches Tey Seu Bock and Hendrawan would help him lay out a plan on which tournaments he would be competing in 2018, including the Commonwealth Games in Australia, Asian Games in Indonesia, World Championships in China and Thomas Cup Finals in Thailand.
