CHEFS may have to board the flight to Hyderabad, India for the World Badminton Championships on Aug 10-16.
Their mission in India will be to prepare local food for the national shuttlers, a step the BA of Malaysia (BAM) is considering after the Lee Chong Wei’s food poisoning experience at last month’s India Open, also in Hyderabad.
Chong Wei, the World No 1, blamed an upset stomach for his first round loss to China’s Chen Long.
BAM president Datuk Nadzmi Salleh said the association will provide the best for the Hyderabad-bound players.
“It has always been our priority to provide the best for the players when they are abroad. We do that all the time,” said Nadzmi recently.
“Chong Wei is always careful about what he eats when overseas. The association is looking at all avenues before the trip to India but will decide later.”
Meanwhile, Bao Chunlai of China captured his second international title of the year at the Asian Championships in Suwon, South Korea yesterday.
Chunlai, who won the German Open in March, beat compatriot Chen Long 16-21, 21-10, 21-16 in 55 minutes.
China went on to win two more titles through Zhu Lin and Ma Jin-Wang Xiaoli in the women’s singles and doubles, respectively.
Indonesia’s Markis Kido-Hendra Setiawan, the World No 1, beat Korea’s Ko Sung Hyun-Yoo Yeon Seong 21-18, 26-24 to win their first men’s doubles title since November.
The Indonesian Olympic and World champions’ last title was the French Open.
Korea won its only title in the mixed doubles when Lee Yong Dae-Lee Hyo Jung outplayed teammates Yoo Yeon Seong-Kim Min Jung 21-12, 21-15.
