M’sian Badminton Squad Adds Second Gold Through Women’s Singles

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18  — The Malaysian Paralympics Badminton squad won their second gold medal through the women’s singles BMSTL2 category at the 5th Asean Para Games held at the Juara Stadium in Bukit Kiara Sports Centre, here Tuesday.

Shuttler Nabila Ahmad Sharif topped the table standing of a four-person group in the event which was played in a two-round robin matches.

Nabila, who is the first seed, won all her six matches against her opponents — Paramee Panyachaem of Thailand, Wandee Kamtam of Thailand, and Doan Thi Ngai of Vietnam — for the gold.

The silver and bronze medals were won by two Thailand players, second seeded Wandee Kamtam and Paramee Panyachaem, respectively.

Besides the women’s singles gold medal, Nabila also won a gold medal in the women’s doubles BMSTL3 when she partnered Nor Azlin Sulaiman on Sunday.

On the opening day (Saturday), the Malaysian men’s standing team — Cheah Liek Hou (men’s singles), Omar Bakri (men’ singles) and Mohd Suhaimi Laiman-Cheah Liek Hou (men’s doubles) — won the silver medal in the event.

In the overall medal standing tally, Malaysia are currently leading the pack of 10 competing countries having won two gold and a silver, while in second place is Indonesia (one silver) and followed by Vietnam (one bronze).

Tomorrow is the last day for the badminton tournament in the games.
