Jakarta: The Indonesia badminton squad has finalized its team roster for the upcoming Southeast Asian (SEA) Games that will take place in Manila, from Nov 30, 2019 to Dec 11, 2019.
The Head of Coaching and Achievement at Badminton Association of Indonesia or PBSI, Susi Susanti has also invited Anthony Sinisuka Ginting to strengthen the Indonesian SEA Games men’s team. Susanti was forced to sacrifice this year’s world junior boys’ doubles champion Daniel Marthin in order to free up a spot for Ginting in the men’s team.
“We did propose a change of player from Daniel to Anthony. The reason was to strengthen the men’s team and to secure at least a medal at the SEA Games. Of course, we also would like to increase the depth of our men’s singles division too because we may not able to win two points from the men’s doubles event,” said Susanti.
The World No. 8 Anthony Sinisuka Ginting could be a critical factor in Indonesia’s success at the men’s team event together with other men’s singles player including World No. 6 Jonatan Christie, World No. 20 Shesar Hiren Rhustavito and World No. 83 Firman Abdul Kholik. However, Ginting and Christie would not be competing in the individual event because they would need to get ready for the 2019 BWF World Tour Finals in Guangzhou, China.
“Anthony and Jonatan will only play in the men’s team event due to their preparation for the World Tour Final match in Guangzhou,” added Susanti.
