Beijing: The Chinese Badminton Association released an official statement on Sunday that China will be postponing all international and national badminton events until further notice.
The announcement stated that:
“In light of recent coronavirus epidemic in China, and in order to be responsible for the health of all participating athletes, coaches, event staff and spectators, the World Badminton Federation (BWF) and Chinese Badminton Association have reported our findings and have received approval from The General Administration of Sport that we would postpone the 2020 Lingshui China Masters which was scheduled to be held from Feb 2, 2020 to March 1, 2020.
In addition, the Chinese Badminton Association had also postponed all national badminton events that were scheduled to take place between February and March.
Future schedule of those events will be published on our official website depending on the development of the coronavirus outbreak.”
In addition to the 2020 Lingshui China Masters, China was also scheduled to hold the Badminton Asia Championships from Apr 21 to Apr 26 in Wuhan, China, the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak.
Currently, BWF, World Health Organization(WHO), and China are still working on a possible solution for the Badminton Asia Championships. Countries such as Philippines, Indonesia or even Japan have become the possible alternatives for hosting the tournament.
