European badminton champions Donna Kellogg and Anthony Clark kicked off their Super Series Masters final campaign with a straight games victory in Malaysia.
In what will be Kellogg’s final tournament before retiring, the duo cruised past India’s Valiyaveetil Diju and Jwala Gutta, eventually coming through 21-15, 21-11 winners in their group B encounter.
Next up for the Brits are Thai pair Songphon Anugritayawon and Kunchala Voravichitchaikul who lost their first match in 22 minutes to Indonesians Hendra Aprida Gunawan and Vita Marissa.
Clark could not carry over his form into his opening men’s doubles match as he and former Olympic silver medallist Nathan Robertson lost out to the Korean duo of Jung Jae Sung and Lee Yong Dae.
The Singapore Open winners were standing toe-to-toe with their opponents throughout the first game but slipped to a 21-18 loss before losing the second game 21-13.
Finally, Gabby White and Jenny Wallwork missed out in their women’s doubles opener against European champions Kamilla Juhl and Lena Frier Kristiansen.
The Brits raced into an early lead, taking the first game 21-16, before their Danish opponents established a stranglehold on the match, taking the second and third games 21-16, 21-9 in double-quick time.
