KUALA LUMPUR: It seems that a strategist is sorely missing in the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) set-up.
National singles chief coach Rashid Sidek asked for a coach last year to assist Hendrawan but the BAM were silent on it.
Instead, they hired Tan Kim Her even though there was no request for a doubles coach or a pressing need for one in the doubles department.
Rashid said that he had requested for a coach to assist Hendrawan as the Indonesian had a big group of players under his charge.
“My hands are also tied with administrative work and meetings. I try to assist the other coaches the best way I can,” said Rashid.
“It will be good to have another coach to help Hendrawan. I informed the BAM of this need last year.”
Hendrawan has under his charge the back-up singles shuttlers, among them Tan Chung Seang, Chong Wei Feng, Liew Daren, Mohd Arif Abdul Latif, Lim Fang Yang, Kuan Kam Chung and Goh Soon Huat.
Currently, Rashid is in charge of Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin and Mohd Syawal Ismail, who were promoted to the national team last week from the Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) squad.
The other singles coaches in the national team are Misbun Sidek (elite men’s singles and Wong Mew Choo), Teh Seu Bok (women’s singles) and their two assistant coaches, Mohd Hazwan Jamaluddin and Woon Sze Mei respectively.
