Top seeds shine in junior badminton tournament (pic)

The final day of the Sushant Chipalkatti All-India Junior Ranking Tournament went as expected, with all the top seeds winning the titles in their respective age groups.

In the Under-13 category, first seed Chirag Sen beat C.Rahul Yadav of Andhra Pradesh 22-20, 21-17 in the singles final. He then teamed up with his singles opponent to clinch the doubles title as well, beating second seeded-pair A S S Siril Verma and M. Arun George of Kerala accomplished a similar feat in the Under-16 age group, beating Aditya Joshi of Madhya Pradesh in the singles final, then winning the doubles title with his partner Santosh Ravuri.
The boys Under-19 top seed, Sameer Verma of Madhya Pradesh beat K Srikanth of Andhra Pradesh. After losing the first set 23-21, Verma came back in the second with all guns blazing, and thrashed Srikanth 21-4. He then took the third set comfortably 21-12 to capture the singles title. In the doubles, second seeds Akshit Mahajan and Hirak Jyoti Neog beat Atri Manu and Shivam Sharma 21-18, 21-16.

In the girls event, U-13 top seed V Harika beat local girl Shikha Rajesh Gautam in the singles, and also blanked second seeds Akshita Bhandari and Mahima Aggarwal in the doubles final. Third seed Rituparna Das of West Bengal upset second seed D.Sudha Kalyani of Andhra Pradesh in the Under-16 singles final.

However, she lost in doubles to Ruthvika Shivani and Poorshiva Ram in the final, alongside her partner J Meghana. Under-19 top seed Saili Rane beat sixth seed Tanvi Lad of Maharashtra 21-17, 22-20.
