WORLD No 1 Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong moved to within a match of retaining their Swiss Open crown after battling their way into the final in Basel yesterday.
Kien Keat-Boon Heong defeated All England runners-up Mathias Boe-Carsten Mogensen of Denmark 21-13, 28-26 in a 41-minute encounter which was a repeat of last year’s final.
Kien Keat-Boon Heong will play either Yoo Yeon Seong-Ko Sung Hyun of South Korea or Japan’s Hirokatsu Hashimoto-Noriyasu Hirata, who were playing late last night, in the final today.
In the men’s singles, Chen Jin defeated Du Pengyu 21-15, 21-6 in the all-China semi-final encounter which lasted for 36 minutes.
Chen Jin will play either compatriot Chen Long or Peter Gade Christensen of Denmark, who were involved in a late last four match, in the final today.
Women’s doubles Miyuki Maeda-Satoko Suetsuna of Japan, who toppled Malaysians Wong Pei Tty-Chin Eei Hui on Friday, secured a hard-earned 13-21, 21-19, 22-20 win over South Korea’s Lee Kyung Won-Lee Hyo Jung in 95 minutes to reach the final.
The mixed doubles final today will be an all-Korean affair as Olympic champions Lee Yong Dae-Lee Hyo Jung, who received a walkover from Poland’s robert Mateusiak-Nadiedza Kostiuczyk, will play Shin Baek Cheol-Yoo Hyun Young, who upset world champions Thomas Laybourn-Kamilla Rytter Juhl of Denmark 12-21, 21-15, 24-22.
