WHILE millionaire superstars such as Liu Xiang and Lin Dan grab the headlines and glory at the Asian Games, it’s easy to forget the hundreds of lesser known athletes in their midst.

Take Nepalese shuttler Sujana Shrestha, the Himalayan country’s number two, who fulfilled her dream when she bumped into Chinese pin-up Lin Dan, widely regarded as the best badminton player of all time.

“I talked to him. Oh, actually it was not talking to him, I asked to take a photo with him,” said Sujana, 22, a journalism student who is doubling up playing at the Games while reporting on it.

“Lin Dan is my idol,” she added.

“He is a great player and a great person,” she was quoted as saying by the China Daily.

Sujana, who was raised in an orphanage, lost heavily in her singles and doubles matches on Tuesday.

“I’m really enjoying my stay here,” she said. I could have done better.”
