The Canadian badminton team announced Friday the four athletes it will nominate for the London Olympics, with Michelle Li, Alexandra Bruce, Grace Gao and Tobias Ng receiving the nods.
Li, from Markham, Ont., will compete in the women's singles event and partner with Toronto’s Bruce in the women's doubles event. Gao, from Calgary, and Ng, from Vancouver, will team up in the mixed doubles event.
Li is Canada’s top-ranked singles player, sitting No. 22 in the Badminton World Federation rankings. She and Bruce are No. 27 in women’s doubles.
Li won singles gold at the Pan American Games in Mexico in October, and also captured doubles gold with Bruce.
Gao and Ng are ranked 28th in mixed doubles.
"I am very proud to be nominated to the Canadian Olympic team," Li said in a statement from the Canadian Olympic Committee. "It is a dream come true to compete for Canada at the Olympic Games."
