TWO-TIME Olympic silver medallist Datuk Lee Chong Wei urged the Penang government to persuade Datuk Ong Poh Eng to reconsider his decision to resign as Penang Sports Council deputy chairman, Nanyang Siang Pau reported.

Lee said he hoped the state government, led by Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, would persuade Ong to stay.

“It will be a loss to the Penang sports industry if Ong leaves the council.

“I do not know what actually happened but it is very rare to have a leader like him. He has a heart to serve,” Lee said.

Ong had tendered his resignation on Aug 17 after Komtar assemblyman Ng Wei Aik, who is also the Chief Minister’s political secretary, had called him an opportunist.

The board rejected the resignation on the basis that Ong had “genuinely” helped with the development of sports in Penang.

However, Ong has yet to decide whether to retract his resignation.

> China Press reported that Hong Kong TVB actress Myolie Wu Hang Yee has refused to get back together with her boyfriend of eight years Bosco Wong Zong Zak.

Wu had broken up with Wong months ago after he was said to have been very close to his female co-stars.

Rumours claim Wong had proposed to Wu after the incident.

“That is what was reported by a magazine. (I) do not know the basis of such a report. Both of us are very busy so we do not contact each other,” she said.
