ARIF Latif stayed on course to win his first international title when he advanced to the quarter-finals of the Korea Open grand prix gold in Jeonnam yesterday.

Arif, the top seed, defeated Park Sing Min of South Korea 21-19, 21-16 in the third round and will meet another Korean shuttler Yim Jpong Woo in the last eight today.

Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin crashed out when he lost 21-18, 21-14 to Indonesia's Riyanto Subagja.

Men's doubles back-up pair Ow Yao Han-Chooi Kah Ming also advanced when they defeated Kim Ki Seob-Na Jae Yeob of South Korea 17-21, 21-10, 21-10 to set up a quarter-final showdown with top seeds Kim Ki Jung-Kim Sa Rang, the Korean No 2, today.

Scratch pair Goh V Shem-Ong Jian Guo beat another local pair Bae Kwon Young-Han To Sung 21-12, 19-21,21-15 and will play Lin Yen Jui-U Chia Bin of Taiwan next.

Women's singles Sonia Cheah cruised into the last eight when she thrashed South Korea's Lim Yun Ha 21-4, 21-6 and will play Miki Takagi of Japan today.
