BWF to look into clashing dates of Super Series, SEA Games

KUALA LUMPUR: Badminton World Federation (BWF)’s chief operating officer (COO) Thomas Lund says that he will look into the clash of dates between BWF’s World Super Series Finals in Kuala Lumpur and the badminton competition at the SEA Games in Myanmar.

“I am not aware of it and so, I will not be able to comment. No one has highlighted this to me. I am not in Kuala Lumpur right now and I will look into it when I get back,” said Lund when contacted Monday.

The Finals are from Dec 11-15 while the badminton competition during the SEA Games is scheduled for Dec 9-14.

Host Malaysia have received an official letter from Indonesia asking for a postponement of the Finals. However, BAM’s general manager Kenny Goh has said that they could not change the dates of the Finals as it was under the jurisdiction of the world body.

Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand are affected by the overlapping of both the world and regional competitions. Indonesia currently have 10 players in the running for the Finals while Malaysia have two.
