KUALA LUMPUR: National coach Pang Cheh Chang (pic) will use the Kuala Lumpur Open, which begins at the Kuala Lumpur Badminton (KLBA) Stadium in Cheras on Wednesday, to evaluate the pairings in the men’s doubles department.
Cheh Chang is back in the national team after serving at the Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) for the last nine months. He will be working with Paulus Firman.
“I have lost touch with the players from the national team after working at the BJSS for the last nine months,” said Cheh Chang, who was in the national team before the demotion.
“I need some time to assess these players and the KL Open is a perfect platform to watch them. I intend to help Paulus by taking care of the back-up players.
“In the KL Open, most of the seniors are playing with their regular partners while most of the juniors are playing with scratch partners. Paulus and I will discuss and decide after the KL Open whether we need to change,” said Cheh Chang.
In the KL Open, Kien Keat-Boon Heong are the top seeds.
In their half of the draw are third seeds Lim Khim Wah-Goh V Shem, the Malaysian Open Grand Prix Gold champions.
The others in the same half are back-up pairs Ow Yao Han-Teo Kok Siang and Ong Jian Guo-Tan Aik Quan.
In the lower half are second seeds Hoon Thien How-Tan Wee Kiong and several back- up players – Nelsen Heg Wei Keat-Yew Hong Kheng, Chooi Kah Ming-Teo Ee Yi, Mohd Lutfi Zaim Abdul Khalid and Low Juan Shen-Tan Yip Juin.
