Chong Wei bags his 10th and 'last' Malaysian Open title (pic)

BUKIT JALIL: It was an emotional day for World No 1 Lee Chong Wei when he nailed his 10th home title. 

The 31-year-old Chong Wei fended off a strong challenge from Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia in the opening game before stepping on the gas for his 21-19, 21-9 win in the men's singles final of the Maybank Malaysian Open at Putra Stadium here. Undisputed. National and world No.1 badminton player Lee Chong Wei kisses the Malaysian Open trophy after securing his record 10th home title on Sunday. he beat Indonesian Tommy Sugiarto in straight sets in the final.

After pulling off the fantastic win, Chong Wei's tears flowed freely. 

"This is the best and most memorable win for me... it is my 10th Malaysian Open title," said Chong Wei. 

"I was tensed the whole week but today, I feel the burden on my shoulder has been lifted."

He however, announced that it would be his last Malaysian Open outing and would allow others to challenge for the title next year. 

With Chong Wei's win, Malaysia ended their campaign in the home tournament with two titles. Earlier, Lim Khim Wah-Goh V Shem had won the men's doubles title. 

For the record, Malaysia last won a double in 2010 when Chong Wei and Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong won the men's singles and doubles titles respectively.
