KUALA LUMPUR: National doubles player Nelson Heg Wei Keat is not letting the split with his partner Teo Ee Yi dampen his spirits.
The doubles pair, who were the World Junior Champions in 2012, have been split and Wei Keat is now partnering Low Juan Shen.
According to Wei Keat, nothing much has changed since the split as things have to move on.
“This is the coaches’ decision, and so I respect it. I will give my best in all the tournaments that I participate in with my new partner Juan Shen,” he said.
“The decision to split my partnership with Ee Yi has not demoralised me. I am looking ahead to be the World Champion in the future,” said the Penangite.
Wei Keat-Juan Shen, who have been together for only a month, will be competing in the Iran Fajr International Challenge from Feb 13-16 in Tehran.
“We hope to get the best possible result at this tournament. We have high expectations – to reach at least the semi-finals,” he said before leaving for Iran on Monday.
“We played together at the recent Indonesia Super League (ISL). It was quite a good experience and we managed to win one of our four matches, against Thailand,” said the 21-year-old.
The pair, seeded sixth at the Iran Fajr International Challenge, have a fair chance of making it to the semi-finals.
The other men’s doubles pair in the tournament are Darren Isaac Devadass-Ong Yew Sin. They will face a stiff first round match against the top-seeded Liang Jui Wei-Liao Kuan Hao from Taiwan.
