PASIR GUDANG: Doubles shuttlers Ow Yao Han-Tan Boon Heong were struggling on the first set, but where able to pull it off by beating Christopher Risdianto-Trikusuma Wardhana of Indonesia 19-21, 21-15, 21-8 in their first international debut on Wednesday.Goh Soon Huat in a file photo. “We got off to a slow start and fortunately, fortunately our opponents were not too strong. We were able to finish strong today."

“We played well in training, hopefully, we will play with more fervour in the next match.” said Boon Heong.

The pair will play Indonesian pair Hardianto Hardianto-Agripinna Prima Rahmanto Putra and have high chance to make it to the quarter-finals.

Other pairs that reached the second round were Chooi Kah Ming-Teo Ee Yi, Jagdish Singh-Roni Tan Wee Long, and Goh V Shem-Lim Khim Wah.

Jagdish-Wee Long have a challenging task against third seeds Markis Kido-Gideon Markus Fernaldi of Indonesia while defending champions V Shem-Khim Wah will take on compatriots Kah Ming-Ee Yi.

Meanwhile, Goh Soon Huat will take on Thailand's Pernut Boontan in the men's singles, and should sail through to third round.

“I've reached the final of the Malaysia Open GP Gold last year and hopefully, after topping the Thomas Cup selection, I will give another strong performance,” said Soon Huat.
