Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia's shuttlers were dripping with sweat, training hard and enjoying the atmosphere at the first day of Thomas-Uber Cup Finals training camp.

Lee Chong Wei was reported to have a little discomfort on his left leg but his coach, Rashid Sidek played down that incident as minor problem.

“Chong Wei told us about it and after a diagnosis, it's no really worrisome” said Rashid, who is also the Thomas-Uber Cup project lead. Of course, everyone knows the importance of Chong Wei for the Thomas Cup team. He is the only player in the roster that can guaranteed a victory.

Other shuttlers in the team are Chong Wei Feng, Liew Daren, Goh Soon Huat, Hoon Thien How-Tan Wee Kiong, Lim Khim Wah-Goh V Shem, Tan Boon Heong and Chan Peng Soon.

“We will have different activities sessions for the Thomas Cup team members every day. The guys will rotate between workouts in the gymnasium and court training. The National Sports Institute will run some motivational seminars and video watching sessions.” he said.

“All these activities is for the purpose of bringing team members closer and foster unity. That's why these guys are staying and travelling together.”

Knowing most of Malaysia’s matches will be held at 2pm in New Delhi, the training has been adjusted towards that time. Furthermore, the coaches want shuttlers to be prepare for the 40°C temperature in New Delhi during Thomas Cup Finals.

Rashid is hoping Malaysia could emerge as champion in Group C. “We would like to go as far as we can. But for now, we are focusing to be the champion of Group C. After that, we take on our opponent one match at a time” Rashid added.

On the other hand, in the Uber Cup Finals, Malaysia is in  Group D with Japan, Denmark and Germany. Malaysia's Uber team featured  Tee Jing Yi, Yang Li Lian, Lim Yin Fun, Lim Chiew Sien, Vivian Hoo-Woon Khe Wei, Amelia Anscelly-Soong Fie Cho and Lee Meng Yean-Lim Yin Loo.
