Kuala Lumpur: Mixed doubles specialist Chan Peng Soon said it is hard to produce good results if he and his partner, Lai Pei Jing don’t have the right chemistry to get it done.
BAM decided to pair 21-year-old Pei Jing with Peng Soon in Commonwealth Games squad after his longtime partner Goh Liu Ying underwent surgery on her knees last month. Koo Kien Keat- Chin Eei Hui defeated Nathan Robertson and Jenny Wallwork of England 22-20, 21-12 to win the mixed doubles gold in the 2010 New Delhi Commonwelath Games.
Chan Peng Soon and Lai Pei Jing will play in Japan Open and Japan Open and Australian Open to try to develop team chemistry and momentum ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
“We are in a race against time. The last time Pei Jing and I played together was in April, it’s hard to play well during our short stint together. We just have to go out there and play our hardest,” said Peng Soon.
At the Japan Open which starts tomorrow, the pair will face Anders Kristiansen-Julie Houmann of Denmark in the first round.
Chan Peng Soon has partnered with Pei Jing in five international tournaments early this year; however the results weren’t that impressive.
They lost to Robert Mateusiak-Agnieszka Wojtkowska of Poland 15-21 21-15 16-21 in the final of Austrian International Challenge, defeated by Ko Sung Hyun-Kim Ha Na of Korea 12-21 15-21 in the German Open, fell out in the first round of the All-England, rejected by Danny Bawa Chrisnanta-Yu Yan Vanessa Neo of Singapore in the second round of Malaysian Open Grand Prix Gold and crashed out in the quarter-finals of the Indian Open.
