Kuala Lumpur: Two weeks ago, Malaysian Thomas Cup shuttlers were rewarded RM25,000 each by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) but the coaches were left out. Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin (center with purple shirt), posing with the Thomas Cup shuttlers

On Tuesday, the coaches were being rewarded for their commitments and sacrifices for the team. All five coaches – Rashid Sidek, Tay Seu Bock, Pang Cheh Chang, Wong Tat Meng and Hendrawan will split the RM16,000 monetary rewards handed out by the National Sports Council (NSC) on Tuesday. Those ten shuttlers – Lee Chong Wei, Chong Wei Feng, Liew Daren, Goh Soon Huat, Tan Boon Heong, Tan Wee Kiong, Hoon Thien How, Goh V Shem, Chan Peng Soon and Lim Khim Wah were also given RM8,000 each by NSC.

“Our badminton team lost a hard fought defeat in the Thomas Cup final. We all wanted to win the Thomas Cup, but we should be proud of their efforts and performance despite the loss,” said Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin

“Let’s move on from the Thomas Cup defeat. There are still Glasgow Commonwealth Games (July 23-Aug 4) and the Incheon Asian Games (Sept 19-Oct 4) ahead of us. The shuttlers should focus on delivering their best performance on these two tournaments,” added Khairy.
