Jakarta: Indonesian mixed doubles Praveen Jordan / Debby Susanto, managed to qualify for the 2014 World Championships to be held in Copenhagen, Denmark, from August 25 to August 31.
Initially, Praveen / Debby did not qualify for the World Championship due to insufficient BWF world ranking points. However, with the withdrawal of several players including Tontowi Ahmad / Liliyana Natsir, the world number 30 pair was eventually able to earn a spot at the Copenhagen World Championships.
“Qualified for the World Championship is definitely a big boost for Praveen / Debby, it gives them a chance to show what they can do,” said their coach, Richard Mainaky.
“Their target is to reach either quarter-finals or semi-finals. They are currently training very hard to prepare for the World Championships,” added Mainaky.
“Even though we didn’t qualify for the World Championships on our merit, I am still very pleased and excited to be able to play in Copenhagen,” said Praveen.
“Debby and I have been aiming for the world championships since we started our partnership at the beginning of this year. We’ve never played in such as a prestigious tournament, it’s going to be a valuable experience for us,” added Praveen.
Praveen/Debby will join three other Indonesian mixed doubles pairs – Riky Widianto / Richi Puspita Dili, Markis Kido / Pia Zebadiah Fernaldi Bernadeth and Marcus Gideon / Rizki Amelia Pradipta in the World Championships.
