Incheon: The reigning Commonwealth Games champions Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong survived a second round fright on Thursday by outlasting Thailand’s Patiphat Chalardchalaem-Wannawat Ampunsuwan 21-19, 15-21, 21-15 in 44 minutes.
With the victory, Goh-Tan will face world number 4 Hiroyuki Endo-Kenichi Hayakawa in the quarter-finals. The Japanese pair swept past Pakistan’s Umer Zeeshan-Muhd Irfan Saeed on Thursday with a dominant 21-12, 21-10 win in just 21 minutes.
Goh V Shem, however, was not totally satisfied with their performance in the second round.
“Due to the court condition, I think we played better against Lee Sheng-mu-Tsai Chia-hsin in the first round compare to the match today,” said Goh V Shem.
“We need to step up our game against the Japanese pair tomorrow, because they have a lot of experience playing in big tournaments’,” added Goh V Shem.
