Kuala Lumpur: After Ng Hui Ern, Ng Hui Lin, Ong Jian Guo, and Yang Li Lian have called it quits, two top Malaysian men’s doubles players – Hoon Thien How and Lim Khim Wah have reportedly submitted their resignation letters to Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) on Wednesday.
BAM’s general manager Kenny Goh confirmed on Friday that he received the letters from the duo.
“Both said in their letters that it’s hard for them to make any further breakthroughs with the national team, and they’ll take a break before deciding on their own future,” said Kenny Goh.
Their departure from BAM left Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong as the sole elite men’s doubles pair in BAM. Previously Hoon Thien How had partnered with Tan Boon Heong while Lim Khim Wah was with Ow Yao Han.
Vice President of BAM Datuk Mohamad Norza Zakaria also expressed his disbelief at the duo’s decision to quit.
“This is a huge loss to BAM! I will try to get a hold with them to understand why they wanted to leave BAM. Nevertheless, I still want to wish them good luck in their future endeavors,” said Norza.
