Korea Open: Lin Dan Is The Korean Open Champ

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 28 (Bernama) -- World number one shuttler, Lin Dan of China secured his first Super Series title after edging compatriot Chen Jin in the final of the men's singles of the Korean Open championship in Seoul, South Korea today.

The world champion took 41 minutes to beat the world junior champion, Chen Jin 21-14, 21-19 at the Olympic Gymnasium.

In last week's Malaysian Open, the opening leg of the Badminton World Federation Super Series championship, Lin Dan was shown an early exit in the second round by South Korean youngster, Park Sung Hwan.

Peter Gade of Denmark won the Malaysian Open by beating Bao Chunlai of China.

In the all Korean men's doubles final, world number five, Jung Jae Sung/Lee Yong Dae justified their ranking by defeating world number 30, Lee Jae Jin/Hwang Ji Man 21-16, 21-15 in 51 minutes.

World number six, Xie Xinfang of China defeated higher ranking compatriot, world number four Zhu Lin 21-14, 21-7 in 33 minutes for the women's singles crown while the Chinese scratch pair of Zheng Bo/Gao Ling defeated Thomas Laybourn/Kamilla Rytter Juhl of Denmark, 22-20, 21-19 in 42 minutes for the mixed doubles title.

In another all Chinese women's doubles final, world number two pair Gao Ling/Huang Sui pulled an upset by beating world top doubles, Yang Wei/Zhang Jiewen in a rubber match 12-21, 21-14, 21-16 in 60 minutes.

Malaysia's challenge ended in yesterday's semifinals when Muhd Hafiz Hashim lost to Chen Jin in the men's singles while Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong lost to Hwang Ji Man/Lee Jae Jin in the men's doubles.

After Malaysia and Korea, the Super Series will take a break for the All England Championship (March 6-11) before continuing with the third leg, the Swiss Open, to be held from March 13 till 18.
