Kuala Lumpur: The 2001 badminton men’s singles world champion Hendrawan of Indonesia was appointed to coach Lee Chong Wei if Lee is set to be eligible to return to professional competition.
Technical director of Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) Morten Frost Hansen revealed on Tuesday that he is going to make some coaching adjustments in the men’s singles department, and Hendrawan, Tey Seu Bock, and He GuoQuan would take on a different role at the national body.
Hendrawan who was previously the coach for Malaysia’s back-up players, would become more involved in getting Lee back on track quickly and achieving breakthrough.
“I will provide more details next Monday,” said Frost.
“It’s time to make some changes, and see if we can help revive Chong Wei’s career, and help him achieve success at the two last major tournaments in this career, which are the 2015 World Championships in Jakarta, and the 2016 Rio Olympics,” added Frost.
Lee Chong Wei has been training under Tey Seu Bock since 2011, after Lee’s previous coach Misbun Sidek resigned from BAM.
