Kuala Lumpur: The 2015 Denmark Open men’s singles draw was announced on Tuesday, and it has thrown up some curveballs for the top players.
Former world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei, current World No. 1 Chen Long and two times Olympic Champion Lin Dan were placed in the same half of the Denmark Open draw.
Lee Chong Wei who is looking forward to make a comeback in Denmark, opens up against world No. 8 Parupalli Kashyap of India in the first round. The Malaysian could face either Wei Nan or a qualifier in the second round before a potential quart-finals clash against world No. 1 Chen Long of China.
Another Chinese player, Lin Dan, could then await Lee in the semi-finals.
In the women’s draw, world No. 1 Saina Nehwal will open play against Busanan Ongbumrungphan of Thailand. She avoided her biggest traditional rival, world champion Carolina Marin of Spain as the Spaniard was placed on the opposite side. However, Saina may have to get past Chinese shuttlers namely No. 4 seed Li Xuerui and No. 5 seed Wang Shixian just to get to the final.
World No. 1 men’s pair Lee Yong Dae/Yoo Yeon Seong of Korea and reigning world champions Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia were on opposite sides of the bracket. They could possibly set up a breathtaking final clash on October 18, at the Odense Sports Park in Odense, Denmark.
