Mulheim: Top women’s singles player Carolina Marin who lead the Spain women’s team to finish third in the 2016 European Men’s & Women’s Team Championships two weeks ago, and helped her team qualified for the Uber Cup finals to be held in Kunshan, China on May 15-22, has pulled out of the German Open slated to kick off on Tuesday.Lin Dan looks so cool when wearing glasses while playing badminton. Another women’s shuttler World No. 2 women’s singles shuttler Saina Nehwal, who had injured her ankle last year, also withdrew from that tournament due to fitness issues. Nehwal has been careful with her recovery, and seemed like she is trying to achieve full fitness during the prestigious All England championship.

In men’s singles competition, World No. 1 Chen Long and World No.2 Lee Chong Wei will be absent from the tournament as well.

Despite all the withdrawals, there are still plenty of star attractions at the German Open.

Coming out of an intensive winter training camp, fans should expect to see significant improvement in two-time Olympic champion Lin Dan’s game compare to his less than satisfactory results last year. If the seeds hold, Lin Dan will probably face Denmark’s rising star Viktor Axelsen in the semi-final.

Tournament’s men’s singles top seed Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark and Tian Houwei of China have been drawn in the other half of the draw, and they are likely to battle each other for a final berth.

For men’s doubles, top seeds Lee Yong-Dae/Yoo Yeon Seong are the “overwhelming favorites” to win German Open after World No. 2 Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan, World No. 3 Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen, and World No. 4 men’s doubles pair Fu Haifeng/Zhang Nan are not participating in the tournament.
