Kuala Lumpur: After losing to China’s top-seed He Bing Jiao in the semi-finals of the Asian Junior Championships in Bangkok last year, World Junior Champion Goh Jin Wei hoped to capitalize on her experience of playing in several huge tournaments such as the Asia Team Championships, Uber Cup Finals and her first Super Series event – the Australia Open, and to do well in this year’s Asian Junior Championships which starts in Bangkok next week.Goh Jin Wei gives World No. 1 Carolina Marin run for money before going down 18-21, 22-20, 16-21 in the 2016 Uber Cup Group A tie between Malaysia and Spain. When speaking to Malaysian media, Goh said she would be aiming for the gold medal this time.

“I know majority of the players are still pretty much the same as last year. This will be my third try and I am more confident after competed in several big tournaments,” said Goh.

Goh’s biggest opponent in the tournament would be last year’s silver medalist – Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand. It’s highly possible that Goh will meet the top seeded Pornpawee in the final.

In the team event, Malaysia who are grouped with Myanmar, Taiwan, Mongolia and Indonesia in Group C, may face either China or South Korea from Group A in the knock out stage.

Meanwhile, the three-time defending champions China were seeded top, while Thailand were seeded second in the mixed team event.

China swept all categories for the singles event and mixed team events in last year’s Asia Junior championships, with Lin Guipu took home the men’s singles title, and He Bingjiao lifted the women’s singles crown.
