This was a different kind of pageantry for the most decorated badminton player ever in Malaysia. Never in his previous three Olympics had Lee even walked in an Olympic opening ceremony. He was always tried to focus on the badminton competition that usually kicked off soon after the opening ceremony.

At this Olympics, which Lee has said likely will be his last, he wanted to experience more of the Olympic atmosphere.

Malaysia was the 119th of 207 contingents to march into the Maracanã Stadium on Friday.
