Foz do Iguacu: The 23-year-old former world junior champion Zulfadli Zulkiffli of Malaysia has finally won his first ever international title at the senior level on Sunday.
No. 1 seed Malaysian needed 80 minutes to score a narrow victory over the No. 4 seed Anand Pawar of India 18-21, 21-11, 21-17 in a thrilling men’s singles final of the Brazil Open Grand Prix.
After the Brazil Open triumph, Zulkiffli has levelled his career head to head record against Pawar to 1-1. Zulkiffli conceded a walkover to the Indian player after losing 21-18 in the opening in the first round of 2013 Australian Open.
As part of the BWF Grand Prix tournaments, the Brazil Grand Prix is one of the main yearly events in the Brazilian badminton community. The tournament offered a total prize money of US$50,000.
