Melacca: Malaysia’s mixed doubles pair Goh Liu Ying and Chan Peng Soon were awarded a single unit apartment and cash incentive respectively from an apartment developer in Melacca on Saturday.
Goh received a service apartment that worth RM658, 476 (USD$148, 774) from Jaya Mapan Group, while Chan was given a RM30,000 (USD$6778) check in appreciation for their performance of bringing back a silver medal from the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The award ceremony was witnessed by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr. Wee Ka Siong and was attended by Jaya Mapan Group general manager Pang Swe Haw.
After the ceremony, Goh Liu Ying and Chan Peng Soon told reporters that they were determined to stay at World’s top 5 throughout next year.
“I am going to train hard to get back to my performance level during the Olympic Games,” said Goh.
“There will be many tournaments next year and playing in those tournaments could also be a good form of training,” added Goh.
Goh also informed reporters that she will move in to the new apartment with her parents.
“We are happy with the gift and it’s definitely a motivation for me to continue do better and to bring more honor to Malaysia,” said Goh.
Goh/Chan are currently the World No. 5 mixed doubles pair in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings.
