Cyber Jaya: Olympic silver medalist Goh Liu Ying and former World No. 1 men’s doubles player Yoo Yeon Seong of Puchong United Badminton Club (PUBC), paired for the first time in the Purple League, overpowered Afiat Yuris Wirawan/Yap Cheng Wen 11-5, 11-8, 9-11, 11-3 of Serdang BC to give Puchong United BC an unassailable 10-5 lead in the best-of-5 event on Tuesday. Before the start of the season, Puchong United has shown the character and determination to win this season’s Purple League championships by signing several notable badminton players such as the 2016 Rio Olympic silver medalist Goh Liu Ying, former world number one men’s doubles player Yoo Yeon Seong of South Korea, former Malaysian national player such as Chong Wei Feng and also Thailand’s Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk to boost their chances of vying for a chance at the Purple League glory.

Although both Chong Wei Feng, Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk and their women’s singles teammate Pan Lu drew a 2-2 draw with their opponents from Serdang BC respectively, victory by Lim Khim Wah/Low Juan Shen in men’s doubles and Goh Liu Ying/Yoo Yeon Seong remained more than enough to push Puchong United over Serdang BC.

This was Puchong United’s first victory of the season after the team lost to BU Dragons BC on Dec 12.

Late in the day, Kepong BC also notched their first win of the season with a 9-8 victory over Bangsar Hawks BC.
