Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing is a promising young mixed doubles pair from Malaysia.

Sibu: The Malaysian team had mixed results at Malaysia Masters on Thursday, as two mixed doubles pairs Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing and Goh Soon Huat/Shevon Jemie Lai have given the home crowd plenty of smiles while the Malaysian men’s singles shuttlers have been completely wiped out from the tournament.Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing is a promising young mixed doubles pair from Malaysia.

Mixed doubles No. 2 seeds Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing continued to live up to their billing as Malaysia’s No. 2 mixed doubles pair after advancing to the quarter-finals by defeating scratch pair Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif (MAS)/Rusydina Antardayu Riodingin (INA), 21-6, 21-12. Tan/Lai will battle Hong Kong’s No. 5 seeds Tang Chun Man/Tse Ying Suet for a spot in the semi-finals next.

Malaysian mixed doubles department also enjoyed a double joy when unseeded Goh Soon Huat/Shevon Jemie Lai comfortably saw off Satrya Aditha/Aghisna Fathkul Laili from Indonesia 21-7, 21-6 in only 16 minutes. Goh/Lai now awaits their first real test of the tournament on Friday when they are set to take on No. 8 seeds Terry Hee Yong Kai/Tan Wei Han of Singapore in the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, former Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) player – Chong Wei Feng has bowed out of the tournament after losing to Anthony Sinisuka Ginting of Indonesia 15-21, 21-23 in 44 minutes.

The 2015 World junior champion and No. 6 seed Goh Jin Wei also crashed out of the women’s singles category, going down to Lee Chia Hsin of Taiwan 12-21, 10-21 in 28 minutes.
