Kuala Lumpur: The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has issued an official statement on Saturday that Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria was unanimously elected by BAM’s council members to succeed Tan Sri Tengku Mahaleel Tengku Ariff as the President of BAM for the 2017/2021 term.
The council members also elected Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Hussain and Datuk Lim Teong Kiat as vice presidents of BAM.
Datuk Ng Chin Chai remained as the honorary-secretary while Datuk V. Subramaniam was elected treasurer.
After running his first BAM council meeting as the President, the newly-elected Zakaria said he would like to put good plans and policies in place to bring back Malaysia’s badminton glory.
He told reporters that BAM will set up a National Badminton Foundation (NBF) to provide funds to run badminton academies across Malaysia, and to provide scholarships by creating opportunities for former BAM’s shuttlers to begin their new careers after their badminton careers have ended.
“We want to win the Olympics and the Thomas Cup, and we will need to start building our own talent pool,” said Zakaria.

President: Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria
Deputy President: Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Hussain and Datuk Lim Teong Kiat.
Honorary-Secretary: Datuk Ng Chin Chai
Assistant Honorary Secretary: Taupik Mohd Hussain
Treasurer: Datuk V. Subramaniam
