Kuala Lumpur: With Lin Dan winning their past two encounters, and Chen Long was made eligible for the World Championships through wild card, World No. 1 men’s singles player Lee Chong Wei was looking for variations and creases to his normal strategy in order to win at this year’s World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland.
“I am aware that my previous two matches against Lin Dan was not my best, and we also noticed Lin Dan was playing very differently compared to the Rio Olympic. Obviously he had used a new strategy. My coach and I have talked about the new game plan after we evaluated the two matches,” said Lee when asked about his recent two consecutive defeats to Lin Dan.
Lee was calm when he spoke to reporters about Chen Long receiving the wild card from Badminton World Federation (BWF).
“I have to face the challenge. If I want to win the World Championships, I have to defeat all the players, there is no easy way out,” said Lee.
As for Lee’s coach, Hendrawan, in addition to the new strategies, his other main task is to motive and to give Lee a massive boost on his desire to win.
“I always tell Lee that his ‘fire’ and the will to win must be the priority. He should keep his spirit high ahead of World Championship, just like during the Olympics,” said Hendrawan.
