JAKARTA, May 17 (Bernama) -- Malaysia may host the 2010 Thomas and Uber Cup finals as it was the only country to have bidded for the world's prestigious event when the closing date for bidders ended Saturday.

A spokesman of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) said only Malaysia submitted its bid at the world badminton governing body's annual general meeting here Saturday.

"The final decision will be announced later as BWF secretary-general Stuart Borrie needs to discuss the details with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM)," he said.

Sources said Malaysia might host the event outside Kuala Lumpur, probably in Johor Baharu or in Sarawak.

Malaysia last hosted the Thomas and Uber Cup finals in Kuala Lumpur in 2000.

Kuala Lumpur had hosted five editions of the Thomas Cup tournament in 1969-70, 1984, 1988, 1992 and 2000 since the world-class championship was introduced in 1948.
