BEIJING, July 31 (Xinhua) — With 22 medals including eight golds, Chinese badminton players dominated the court since the sport entered the Olympiad at the 1992 Barcelona Games, and they are likely to maintain their dominance at the impending Beijing Games.

During the past four Games there were 61 medals including 19 golds, 19 silvers and 23 bronzes.

China won one silver and four bronzes in 1992. One year later, Li Yongbo became the head coach of the badminton team, which won the women's doubles gold at the Atlanta Games. China won four golds in Sydney, except the one for men's doubles, and three golds in women's singles, doubles and mixed doubles in Athens.

Currently, China has only yet to win the gold for men's doubles discipline. Only four countries namely China, Indonesia, South Korea and Denmark have won titles in the Olympic badminton tournament. Among the 19 golds, 18 went to Asia and one went to Europe.

China won eight golds, fours silvers, ten bronzes. It outnumbered Indonesia and South Korea, both ranked the second in the gold tally, by three golds.

China has won 22 medals during the past four Olympic Games, followed by Indonesia with 15 and South Korea 14.
