Beijing, China (Sports Network) - Reigning Olympic champion Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia was defeated Monday in two games by Malaysian Wong Choong Hann in men's badminton singles.

Hidayat, who had beaten Wong on the way to winning gold at the 2004 Athens Games, lost by a 21-19, 21-16 score in just 44 minutes.

No. 1 seed Lin Dan of China had better success against Ng Wei of Hong Kong, winning 21-16, 21-13 -- also in 44 minutes.

American Raju Rai was handed a 21-9, 21-26 loss by Ville Lang of Finland.
