LEE Chong Wei completed his reign as the World No 1 for a fifth consecutive month when he remained at the top of the men's singles ranking released by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) yesterday.
This is by far the longest reign as the World No 1 by any Malaysian singles or doubles and he is set to be at the top until the All England in March.
Chong Wei, who enjoys a healthy 14,459-point lead over World No 2 Lin Dan of China, needs to reach the semi-finals of the All England (Mar 3-8) and Swiss Open (on Mar 10-15) to continue his reign.
Meanwhile, women's doubles Wong Pei Tty-Chin Eei Hui maintained their position as the World No 2 behind Taiwan's Chen Wen Hsing-Chie Yu Chin.
The men's doubles ranking also remained unchanged where South Koreans Jung Jae Sung-Lee Yong Dae are the World No 1 while Malaysians Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong and Zakry Latif-Fairuzizuan Tazari are ranked fourth and fifth respectively.
Wong Mew Choo, despite her injury woes, is still the highest ranked Malaysian in the women's singles at No 12 while Julia Wong is 14th and Lydia Cheah 35th.
Julia has the opportunity to overtake Mew Choo after the All England and Swiss Open if the latter fails to recover from her injuries and misses the tournaments.
