Korea Open: RI`s mans advance to Korea Open quarterfinals

Jakarta (ANTARA News) – Indonesia has only men`s singles Sony Dwi Kuncoro and men`s doubles Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan left in the ongoing Korea Open.

Sony booked the victory after defeating 20th seeded Lee Tsuen Seng of Malaysia in a rubber set 17-21, 21-18 and 21-18 to qualify for the quarter finals, the tournament`s official site said on Thursday.

Sony, who now ranks 44th will meet with Malaysian Muhd Hafiz Hashim in the next round.

Markis/Hendra, meanwhile advanced to the quarter finals after beating Simon Mollyhus/Anders Kristiansen of Denmark 21-17 and 21-15. The two will meet with host doubles Jung Jae Sung/Lee Yong Dae in the quarter finals.

The runner-up of the women`s doubles at the recent Malaysia Open, Greysia Polii/Vita Marissa lost to their Japanese rivals Aki Akao/Tomomi Matsuda 21-19, 11-21 and 10-21 in the second round of the tournament held at the Olympic 2nd Gymnasium, Seoul, on Thursday.

The Korea Open is the second tournament of the 12-event Super Series. The first was the Malaysia Open.

Indonesian women`s doubles Rani Mundiastuti/Endang Nursugianti had also to stop their play at the second round, while women`s singles Maria Kristin had even left out from the tournament at the first round.

Three Indonesian mix doubles, namely Nova Widianto/Lilyana Natsir, Flandy Limpele/Vita Marissa and Muh Rizal/Greysia Polii had also to surrender to their rivals.

Indonesian men`s doubles Joko Riyadi/Hendra A Gunawan were also defeated by first seeded Fu Haifeng/Cai Yun of China 19-21, 13-21 at the second round of the tournament.
