On August 5, in the women’s singles final at the Paris Olympics, He Bingjiao won the silver medal in the women’s singles event. During the award ceremony, she held her medal in her left hand and a Spanish flag in her right hand, sparking discussions on social media.

This was because during the women’s singles semifinal, He Bingjiao’s opponent, Spanish star Carolina Marin, was forced to withdraw due to a knee injury, allowing He Bingjiao to advance to the final. That’s why, during the women’s singles award ceremony, He Bingjiao held the Spanish flag to pay tribute to Marin.

The International Olympic Committee later commented on the gesture, stating, “This is the true meaning of the Olympic spirit.” The Spanish Olympic Committee also expressed gratitude to He Bingjiao on their official social media, calling it “the best embodiment of the Olympic spirit.”
