KUALA LUMPUR: Japan’s Kenichi Tago’s elusive chase for his first Super Series title continued with a miserable end at the French Open in Paris on Sunday.
On Sunday, the 24-year-old Kenichi blew his chance of making the French Open his most memorable event in his career due to sloppy finishing that saw him lose 19-21, 21-23 to a fired up Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark in the final.
On several occasions, Kenichi did well to hold the upper hand but became his own worst enemy by making too unforced errors and allowed a confident Jorgensen to romp home with his first Super Series title.
The Japanese, however, can still walk the talk.
On Saturday, he had overcame his biggest stumbling block – World No. 1 Lee Chong Wei to make it a very significant day in his career.
Meanwhilie, in men’s doubles, Malaysian top pair Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong’s agonising wait for a Super Series title continued as they went down meekly 16-21, 18-21 to qualifiers Gideon Markus Fernaldi-Markis Kido of Indonesia.
Kien Keat-Boon Heong only lasted for 33 minutes before going down to the spirited pair, who bagged their first title together.
In the women’s singles, world No. 7 Wang Shixian of China overcame a tough challenge by Thailand’s Porntip Buranaprasertsuk to win 21-18, 21-18.
It was the second title for China after Bao Yixin-Tang Jinhua bagged their third straight title by beating compatriots Tian Qing-Zhao Yunlei 21-13, 21-17 in the women’s doubles final.
The young Chinese pair had won the Dutch and Denmark Opens earlier.
