BANGKOK: The Thailand Open 2026 finals are officially set after an action-packed semifinal day featuring several world-class badminton performances across all five disciplines.

Fans at Bangkok’s Nimibutr Stadium witnessed high-intensity battles as Denmark’s Anders Antonsen, Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn, India’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty, and Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi booked their places in the finals.

Anders Antonsen Battles Into Men’s Singles Final

World No. 3 Anders Antonsen secured his spot in the men’s singles final after China’s Shi Yu Qi withdrew in the semifinals.

The Danish star entered the final without breaking a sweat and set up a blockbuster title clash against Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn.

Kunlavut looked dominant in his semifinal against Chinese Taipei veteran Chou Tien Chen, winning comfortably 21-7, 21-19.

The reigning world champion controlled the tempo throughout the match, especially in the opening game where his sharp attacking play and court movement completely neutralized Chou’s rhythm.

In the second game, Chou attempted to fight back with more aggressive rallies, but Kunlavut maintained his composure during crucial points to close out the victory.

The highly anticipated final between Antonsen and Kunlavut is expected to be one of the biggest badminton matches of the tournament.

Satwik-Chirag Edge Malaysia Pair in Men’s Doubles Thriller

One of the most exciting matches of the day came in the men’s doubles semifinals.

India’s top seeds Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty survived a fierce challenge from Malaysia’s Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani to win 19-21, 22-20, 21-16.

The Malaysian pair started strongly and captured the opening game with aggressive front-court interceptions and powerful attacking combinations.

However, the Indian duo showed their experience in the second game.

Trailing late in the game, Satwik and Chirag raised their intensity and narrowly stole the game 22-20 to force a decider.

The momentum completely shifted in the third game as the Indian pair dominated the flat exchanges and controlled the pace to complete the comeback victory.

Satwik and Chirag will now face Indonesia’s Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin in the final.

The Indonesian pair advanced after defeating China’s He Ji Ting and Ren Xiang Yu 21-15, 21-18 in straight games.

Akane Yamaguchi and Chen Yufei Advance in Women’s Singles

Japan’s top seed Akane Yamaguchi continued her strong run in Bangkok with a convincing 21-11, 21-15 victory over Thailand’s Pitchamon Opatniputh.

Yamaguchi’s consistency and defensive control proved too strong as she comfortably managed the match from start to finish.

Meanwhile, China’s Chen Yufei defeated Japan’s Hina Akechi 21-17, 21-19 in another semifinal.

Chen displayed excellent patience and tactical discipline during the crucial moments, especially late in the second game when Akechi attempted a comeback.

The final between Akane Yamaguchi and Chen Yufei promises another classic rivalry between two of badminton’s most accomplished women’s singles stars.

Japan and China Reach Women’s Doubles Final

Japan’s Rin Iwanaga and Kie Nakanishi booked their place in the women’s doubles final after defeating compatriots Rui Hirokami and Sayaka Hobara 22-20, 21-12.

China’s Bao Li Jing and Cao Zi Han also advanced comfortably after beating Chinese Taipei’s Hu Ling Fang and Jheng Yu Chieh 21-18, 21-17.

The final is expected to feature a fascinating clash between Japan’s speed and China’s attacking discipline.

Zhu Yijun-Li Qian Reach Mixed Doubles Final
