Taipei: As others faltered, former world junior champion Mak Hee Chun and his partner Chow Pak Chuu held it together to advance to the quarter-finals of Chinese Taipei Open Championships knocking off world No.32 Wahyu Nayaka Arya Pankaryanira-Ade Yusuf of Indonesia 21-19, 21-12. 
Mak Hee Chun was once down in the doldrums after being dropped from the Badminton Association of Malaysia’s (BAM) set-up in September 2012. But after a long hiatus, the 23-year-old Hee Chun, who won the world junior boys’ doubles title with Teo Kok Siang in 2008, teamed up with former partner Chow Pak Chuu in a bid to revive his career. They will play Hiroyuki Saeki-Ryota Taohata of Japan on Friday.
Chooi Kah Ming-Teo Ee Yi couldn’t repeat a performance like they did yesterday as they defeated the 8th seeded Taiwanese pair; On Thursday, Chooi-Teo found themselves at the mercy of China’s Li Junhui-Liu Yuchen fast attacks and couldn’t hold on. The game ended with 19-21, 14-21 victory to the Chinese pair.
Another Malaysian back-up pair, Tai An Khang-Woon Mun Choon had no answer to world No. 81 Hiroyuki Saeki-Ryota Taohata of Japan losing 16-21, 12-21 in 29 minutes.
In men’s singles, Tan Chun Seang, the independent shuttler from Malaysia, went down 19-21, 21-19, 12-21 in a hard fought match against Japanese Riichi Takeshita.
Meanwhile, Thomas cupper Goh Soon Huat was unable to take down the two time Olympic gold medalist Lin Dan by bowing out 16-21, 16-21 in 39 minutes.
The top seeded women’s singles, Sung Ji Hyun of Korea proved far too strong for Sannatasah Saniru of Malaysia, powering to a 21-6 21-13 straight sets victory in second round.
Malaysia’s women’s doubles, Amelia Alicia Anscelly-Soong Fie Cho suffered a disappointing lost 22-24, 19-21 to fifth seeds Tang Yuanting-Huang Yaqiong of China.
